Bio
The Automatones formed in 2000 at porter college in santa cruz in the a2center lounge. John Swanson and Kyle Warren were room mates, and they jammed the first night they moved in together. soon Steve truffers who lived in the orter batcaves joined on bass and the band was complete when they found Alana king to play drums

dave played moog for a bit until they found Brendan Hogan to become their permanent Keyboard / Nintendo-Noise maestro, Alana soon left the band to join Tenth of Always and Seve switched to drums. It was then then that the band asked Mia Riddle to fill in on the bass.

The Automatones never played outside of Santa Cruz. Between 2000 and 2003 they played at the Porter Soundbox, The Barn, the Cube, the Saturn Cafe, the Rio Theater, the Catalyst, 418 project, porterpallooza, and the Big Bang (10 day underground music festival), but they never once played at cafe pergolesis

Today,

Steve lives in san francisco and plays drums in Finest Dearest.

John lives in san francisco and plays in Project Alpha, and also runs the Pacific Noise Video Podcast.

Kyle lives in Brooklyn NY and plays drums in Cezanne.

Mia lives in new york as well and has gone on to become world famous status with her folk music group.

Brendan moved to Seattle and continues to play experimental music on the trumpet and other instruments. Often asked if they were a ska band because of the "tones" in their name, the band members always reminded people that dick dale and the del-tones weren't a ska band either.

The Automatones played their first show in the porter sound box in 2000, and played their final show in the porter soundbox as well 3 years later . Most of their concerts ended with the band members all on the ground twisting knobs on their effects pedals and making robot noises.

Very good music. Shame the group disbanded. Would have loved to see you live. I think it would be cool John if you put something like this together again, if you find good co-players (whatever "good" means in this context).
